THE
MINOAN COLLECTION
My works are influenced by and incorporate
symbols of my ancestors the Minoans of prehistoric Crete and the Byzantine
designs of Greek Orthodoxy
The
Minoans were a highly advanced, matriarchal society living in
peace for 1,500 years. Circa 2,500 B.C., they inhabited what is presently
known as the island of Crete in Greece and created beautiful works in
gold incorporating iconographic messages.
Gold is the metal of the sun
Gold amplifies energy, symbolizes purity of
spirit, spurs regeneration, and has been called "the Master Healer".
Turquoise is the stone of prosperity, protection and good luck.
Silver is the metal of the moon
As
a child and young adult, I attended Greek Orthodox church every Sunday.
I marveled at the brilliance and detail of gold and bejeweled altar
pieces, bible covers, mosaics, stained glass windows, and pictographic
icons.
My
passion for and memories of the beautiful images of my youth are my
inspiration. It is my intent to honor my ancestors, awaken archetypal
cellular memory in the viewer/collector, encourage an appreciation for
the precious gift of life, and inspire creativity and beauty. The adornments
I create are designed for body and soul. May they bring magic, love,
and free spirit!
 The spiral is used as an icon to symbolize the cycle of life - creation, regeneration, new life; wavey lines represent the flow of life force and energy through all aspects of life and the passing of time. |
The first step is the melting of the gold to create a 22 karat gold ingot, which will serve as the base for a spiral gold ring.
As
I travel the world, I love to collect beads. Each of my hand made pieces
is an expression of these encounters. These adornments are designed
for body and soul. I find working with color, glass, stone and crystal
to be a wonderful voyage for myself as well as for the collector of
the piece. Each bead is carefully chosen and represents a place, memory
and experience. An energy exchange first occurs between myself, the
bead collector and the piece, and finally between the wearer and the
piece.
